Croft Brighton Residence
Across three sizeable floors, PIXIE delivers lighting, blind and curtain control, ceiling fan control, and DAIKIN VRF AC โ accessed via 11 PIXIE Touch Panels and the PIXIE Plus App.
Key Takeouts
Simple
Using standard Australian wiring practices for installation of PIXIE smart Bluetooth mechs and modules reduces the home-running electrical circuits normally required for legacy control systems, and obviates the need for comms cable distributed throughout the sizeable project. This massive reduction in materials and labour keeps design simple now and for future maintenance.
Smart
Across 3 sizeable floors, PIXIE delivers lighting control, blind and curtain control, ceiling fan control, and DAIKIN VRF AC control. Home owners access these from their mobile app, one of the 11 PIXIE Touch Panels, and always have a switch or dimmer on the wall as an absolute redundant operation. As PIXIE does not depend on the internet for in-home operation, individual control of a single light or all systems from any location is easy.
Scaleable
The scale of the home is vast, featuring five main bedrooms plus a guest suite, with each room serviced by its own private ensuite. The floor plan is designed for a family to grow into over two decades, featuring a main living hub attached to a designer kitchen, a separate lounge overlooking the pool, and a sprawling downstairs entertainment zone. PIXIE's wireless mesh works seamlessly in this environment.
The Challenge
The primary challenge of this project was the "moving target" of design requirements in a high-end build.
In a traditional or legacy smart home installation, these specific on-site changes would have been catastrophic requests; the existing conduits were at capacity for landscaping, leaving no room to pull the additional switch line cables required to reach the main switchboards.
PIXIE's use of traditional wiring infrastructure and Bluetooth mesh communications, coupled with PIXIE's unique hardware devices like the Dual Relay Controller and on-site innovation from Datt Electrical, made all of this possible โ without the headaches and cost of legacy smart home systems.
Benefits
Why load up the home's Wi-Fi with every single smart light and switch?
Instead of relying on the home's primary data network like many Wi-Fi smart home systems do, PIXIE runs on its own dedicated Bluetooth Mesh network. That means the core automation system operates separately, keeping the household Wi-Fi cleaner, more stable, and less prone to congestion as the system scales.
Even on a project this large, only the key interface hardware touches the Wi-Fi network. In this case, that's just 3 PIXIE Gateways and 9 Touch Panels. Everything else communicates device-to-device through the mesh โ removing the need for complex network infrastructure and eliminating the usual dependency on dedicated IT support.
The system stays fast and responsive, and it remains easy for the family to live with and manage day to day.
